Board of Directors

John Sherrington, Chair
 
John is Vice-Chairman of Scotia Capital and has had a career of over 30 years in investment banking. John has been on the board of CAF since 2003. He is an active community volunteer having served for a number of years on the boards of both the Sunnybrook Foundation and Sunnybrook Hospital. He has chaired the Red Rose Ball on a number of occasions, which has raised funds for a wide variety of causes. He is also a governor and active member of the Canadian Council of Christians & Jews and the Canadian Centre for Diversity. John holds degrees from Oxford University and the London Business School.

Noella Milne, Past Chair
 
Noella is a partner at Borden Ladner Gervais, and is the Toronto Regional Leader for the Real Estate Practice Group. Noella is a Member of the Canadian Bar Association and has been appointed to the Board of Directors of: The Canadian Club, where she is Immediate Past President, Children’s Aid Foundation, George Brown College, Ontario Science Centre, C.O.R.E. and UNICEF Canada. Noella holds degrees from Carelton University and the University of Toronto Law School.

Joseph Canavan, Vice Chair
 
Joe is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Assante Wealth Management and United Financial Corporation, an affiliated asset management firm. Prior to joining Assante, he was the President and CEO of Synergy Asset Management, a wealth management company he founded. Joe is active in a wide range of industry and community organizations. He is Vice Chairman of the Children’s Aid Foundation, Chairman of North York General Hospital’s Paediatric Giving Campaign and is on the Board of the National Ballet of Canada .He has a Bachelor of Business Administration from Concordia University and has completed Harvard University's three-year executive management program for owners and presidents of companies.

Sheila Block
 
Sheila is a partner and former chair of the Executive Committee of Torys LLP. She is a senior trial and appellate counsel, with a broad civil litigation practice. She has appeared as counsel at all levels of the courts in Ontario, the Federal Court of Canada and the Supreme Court of Canada. She is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, a fellow of the International Society of Barristers and honourary member of the Commercial Bar Association of England. As a volunteer, she has served on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Civil Liberties Association and the Ontario Trillium Foundation, and co-chair of Touching Tiny Lives Foundation which runs a safe house and outreach program in Lesotho for children affected by HIV/AIDS.

Paul Clark
 
Paul is Senior Vice President, Small Business Banking and Merchant Services for the TD Financial Group. Paul began his career with TD in 1983 as a part-time Customer Service Representative and has held increasingly senior positions in the Toronto, Calgary and Halifax areas over the years. In 2006, Paul joined the Board of Directors for the Children’s Aid Society of Toronto and recently joined the Family Services Association of Toronto. Paul was also recognized last year as one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40, a national program honouring Canadians under the age of 40 who achieve significant professional success.

Laura Dottori-Attanasio
 
Laura is the Chief Risk Officer of National Bank of Canada. After spending two years with a major Chartered Accountant firm, Laura joined National Bank of Canada where she has spent her career in positions of increasing responsibility within the Commercial, Corporate Banking and Credit divisions. Laura holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance & Economics from the University of Western Ontario. She has an ongoing involvement in the non-profit community including having served as Chair of National Bank Financial’s United Way fundraising initiatives in Toronto. Laura is a Board member of the Children’s Aid Foundation and chairs the Foundation’s Corporate and Individual Giving Committee. She is also an active volunteer with Covenant House and has also been a foster mother to a child in the care of the Children’s Aid Society.

Andrew Dunn
 
Andrew is the Managing Partner of Tax in Toronto for Deloitte & Touche LLP. He leads Deloitte’s involvement with Canadian private equity and has been named one of Canada’s leading tax advisors by the International Tax Review. Andrew is Co-Chair of the Deloitte Centre for Excellence in Taxation Education and Research at the University of Waterloo, a body on which he has served since he helped form it in 1996. He has also served on the Waterloo Advisory Council at the University of Waterloo and has recently joined the Impact Advisory Board, a national student entrepreneurship organization. Andrew has served on the Investment Committee of the Children’s Aid Foundation since 2006 and began with the Board in the spring of 2007. Andrew’s wife Christine is a volunteer with the Children’s Aid Foundation.

Lynn Factor
 
Lynn has a MSW and has had a distinguished career in child welfare and is currently the Group Leader for the Child Victim Witness Program at the Toronto Child Abuse Centre. Her role is to prepare child victims or witnesses to testify in criminal court. Prior to this appointment, she worked with the Ministry of the Attorney General managing all clinical, staff and administrative activities related to the Victim Witness Assistance Program. She has worked at the Children’s Aid Society of Durham Region as supervisor of their Intake Department and has also had a private practice as a consultant and play therapist. Lynn hold degrees from Ryerson University and York University.


William Falk
 
Will is the Managing Partner of Accenture’s Health and Life Science Practice in Canada. Will has been a strategic consultant for more than 15 years based in New York and Toronto and has served many of North America’s top academic medical centers and health ministries and regional authorities across Canada. He was a Visiting Research Fellow at Yale’s School of Management during the 2002/2003 academic year and he advised the federal government on healthcare policy during the 2004 First Ministers Meeting. He and his wife, Kate Fillion, are foster parents through the Children’s Aid Society of Toronto.  Will has a B.Sc. from Trinity College at the University of Toronto and a M.A. of Public and Private Management from Yale University.  

John Gagliano
 
As President of St. Joseph Print, John oversees St. Joseph Communications’ four main print facilities along with its over 50 digital print centres across the country. Since joining the organization in 1982, John has held various positions in all aspects of the business. As well as serving on the board of the Children’s Aid Foundation, John is also on the board of Salt & Light Catholic Media Foundation, St. Joseph Health Centre Foundation and the Canadian Opera Company. He has been an active member of the Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO) Toronto Chapter since 2002.

John Gibson
 
John was born and educated in Montreal. He studied business at McGill University then joined National Trust Company as an executive trainee. In 1968 he left National Trust to start E.E.S. Financial Services Ltd., Canada’s first, and now oldest, fee-only ‘time based’ personal financial planning company. Over the years he has been active in various services/charitable organizations. He was a Past President of the Optimists Club of Montreal and is Past Chairman of Awards and Scholarship Committee for Children’s Aid Foundation. Also, he is on the Board of Directors of Enghouse Systems Ltd, a TSX listed company.

 
Gordon Kirke
 
Gordon Kirke practises entertainment and sports law in Toronto. He is the first non-American to be president of the Sports Lawyers Association and is a director of several professional and community organizations including Tennis Canada, the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sports and Stop the Violence. In 1997, he authored the “Players First Report” for the hockey system across Canada in an effort to reduce the likelihood of abuse of young athletes. He is an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law and Osgoode Hall Law School, giving guest lectures at many law schools, including the University of Michigan, Marquette, and Harvard. He makes frequent appearances on radio and television to discuss matters of interest in the sports and entertainment industries.

Peter Lee
 
Peter, a graduate of McGill University, is Regional Director of Eastern Canada, CIBC Wood Gundy. He began his career in the financial services industry with Merrill Lynch nearly 20 years ago. He later worked for Dean Witter Reynolds, Midland Walwyn and TD Bank Financial Group's full service brokerage where he held progressively senior management roles at the branch, regional and national levels including President & Chief Operating Officer. Prior to joining CIBC Wood Gundy, Peter was the Chief Executive Officer of a privately held Canadian investment dealer. Peter has been involved with the Children's Aid Foundation for almost a decade and has served on the board since 2004.

David Leith
 
David is Deputy Chairman, Head, Investment & Corporate Banking, CIBC World Markets. He has been with CIBC World Markets since 1983, holding the position of Managing Director and head of Debt Origination, Debt Capital Markets, prior to assuming his current role. With more than 20 years of experience at CIBC World Markets, David has extensive equity, government finance and M&A experience in both London, England and Toronto. He is also a member of the CIBC World Markets management committee. David holds a BA from University of Toronto, and a MA from Cambridge University.

Wendy Millar
 
Wendy is Executive Vice-President and Senior Risk Officer, BMO Bank of Montreal.  Prior to holding this position, Wendy held a number of executive roles in various lines of business and in the corporate function over the past decade. She was previously on the Board of Interac, MasterCard International Debit Advisory Board and Bank of Montreal Mortgage Corporation. She is currently on the Board of the Bank of Montreal Capital Corporation. Wendy holds a BA from University of Guelph, and a MA Economics, University of Guelph.

James Sutherland
 
Jamie joined Sceptre Investment Counsel Limited in 1999 and is a Managing Director in the Private Asset Management area. In 1984 he co-founded and operated Sutherland Investment Corporation and its affiliated firms offering mutual fund and insurance products. In 1991 he joined GBC Asset Management Inc. to market its no-load mutual fund family. Prior to joining Sceptre, Jamie was a Partner and Senior Vice-President at KPMG Investment Advisory Services where he developed investment management solutions for high-net-worth individuals.

Terry Walsh
 
Terry is the president, managing partner, and chief investment officer of Gryphon Investment Counsel. He is a founder of Gryphon, which was formed in 1981. As well as being a director of Gryphon, Terry is also a director of Gryphon International Investment Corporation and Integra Capital Management Corporation. He is a graduate of McGill University and an Associate of the Society of Actuaries.
