In 1979, a group of philanthropists came together with a vision and a plan to ensure that Canada’s most vulnerable children and youth would have sustained access to the resources they need to heal, thrive, and succeed. Their solution was to create a major endowment fund to launch the Children’s Aid Society of Metropolitan Toronto Foundation, now known as the Children’s Aid Foundation, to guarantee ongoing support for the programs and services delivered by Canada’s largest child welfare agency. In its inaugural year, the Foundation granted $49,400 for six programs that benefited Toronto-area children and youth in the care of the Children’s Aid Society of Toronto.
Over 35 years later, the Children’s Aid Foundation now works with over 50 child welfare agencies nationwide (including the Children’s Aid Society of Toronto) and is known as Canada’s leading charity dedicated to improving the lives of kids and youth involved with the child welfare system. Our growth and impact have only been possible with the support of our many generous corporate, individual, and foundation donors.
Together with the generosity of our donors, we look forward to continuing this rich legacy in the years to come, and to building a better, stronger Canada one child at a time.
