Enrichment

Child's play isn't just for fun, its crucial to healthy social and intellectual development. Play teaches children how to interact with each other, how to cooperate constructively, how to compete fairly and how to learn and improve by persevering. At risk children often lack the means or opportunity to participate in this important aspect of growing up. An active life that includes recreation and cultural experiences, like joining a sports team, learning to play an instrument or attending summer camp, helps at risk children to build self-esteem, express themselves, and experience what it’s like to simply be a kid.

Disadvantaged children are prone to many chronic health problems due to poor diets, bad hygiene and lack of proper dental care. Addressing these special health needs fosters self-confidence and helps to improve their overall wellbeing. Making up for nutritional deficits and treating health conditions as they arise can make a vital difference in how a young life unfolds.

We believe that addressing essential health needs and providing life enriching experiences – no matter how big or small – can promote tremendous physical and mental well-being and growth.

Program Highlight - CIBC Miracle Skate

The hearts of over 40 children were warmed at the wonderful CIBC Miracle Skate hosted the afternoon of November 25th at U of T’s Varsity Arena. The Children’s Aid Foundation, along with a small group of local charities, were invited to receive support from the annual CIBC Miracle Day fundraiser. One of our outstanding youth, Joshua, did a phenomenal job of sharing with the crowd how the annual CIBC Miracle Day has made his difficult childhood happier and ultimately helped him achieve both his personal best in a special needs hockey league and in life!

On December 1st the 2010 CIBC Miracle Day campaign raised a staggering $ 4.1million! Our foundation congratulates the efforts of countless event volunteers, the generosity of the many clients and employees at CIBC’s wholesale bank, and CIBC Wood Gundy Investment Advisors who donated their fees and commissions on CIBC Miracle Day. Together, we provide hope and opportunity for children and youth to overcome the challenges they face in their young lives!

Program Highlight - Health & Well-Being Fund

Almost half of all children coming into care suffer from depression, anxiety or behavioural problems and almost none of them have ever visited a dentist. The Health & Well-Being Fund helps at risk children and youth gain access to specialized medical treatments when other health care resources have been exhausted. It also helps low-income youth transitioning to independance with the medical benefits they often lack.

* At this time the Children's Aid Foundation does not accept unsolicited grant proposals. *
