The 11th Annual Recognition Night
RONA CEO Robert Dutton with RONA's scholarship recipients.
On September 29th, the Children’s Aid Foundation had the opportunity to honour the generosity of our partners and celebrate the accomplishments and successes of our students.
For our students, the evening represents great achievements, determination and new beginnings with the formal recognition of their scholarships and the opportunity to meet with the individuals or corporation who have helped them with the cost of school. For our donors and corporate partners, this event is a chance to meet the young people they have reached out to and see the difference they have helped make.
Each year, we honour a few special corporate partners and individual donors who had gone above and beyond in their support. This year we had the opportunity to thank and award our past-chairman of the board, John Sherrington, with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his dedication and commitment over the last six years. Highly respected by his fellow board members, John ensured that the board operated efficiently and offered our donors transparency in everything we did.
Manulife Financial was awarded the Corporate Award. Manulife Financial was among the first companies to provide funding for the Foundation’s comprehensive education strategy. Our Special Event Award was presented to National Bank Financial Group for their committed participation in and sponsorship if the Foundation’s events, specifically the Golf Classic, Women’s Golf Classic and Teddy Bear Affair. Chatelaine was presented with the Gift-in-Kind Award for their significant value of in-kind ad space and product and for providing far reaching marketing opportunities. The Community Award was presented to RONA. RONA is the only corporation to sponsor a province-wide child abuse prevention program and over the years this developed into the only province-wide scholarship program for youth in the care of a children’s aid society. RONA’s CEO, Robert Dutton, gave a motivating speech that has had a lasting impact on our students.
Once again Recognition Night was a resounding success. The Parade of Graduates was the grand finale and the cheering from on stage in acknowledgment of their own achievements was almost louder than the standing ovation from the audience. Always a staff favourite, we look forward to having the opportunity to celebrate with our students and partners again next September.
