For most children, playing sports is a memorable and
important part of their childhood experience. Yet for children who grow up in
poverty or in the care of child welfare agencies, this is often not the case
due to the financial commitments of playing a sport. The opportunity to play on
a team is one that no child should have to miss out on and that is why the
Children’s Aid Foundation, in partnership with the S’port for Kids Foundation,
created the S’port for Kids Play Fund in 2001.
The Fund provides the means for children served by child
welfare agencies to participate in team based sports, which not only puts them
on equal footing with their peers, but also contributes to healthy physical,
emotional and social development. Whether it be baseball, soccer, hockey,
volleyball or field hockey, the S’port for Kids Play Fund gives children the
opportunity to make new friends, gain confidence, learn to play by the rules,
and have fun.
The Children’s Aid Foundation was thrilled to accept a
cheque from the S’port for Kids Foundation in the amount of $25,000 in
December. This fund has already allowed more than 1,500 children to participate
in organized sport and with this donation, that number will continue to grow.
Thank you to the S’port for Kids Foundation for helping to enrich the lives of
so many children in need.
"I do track and because of you I can continue to love and enjoy my passion. If I go to the Olympics I will remember to look in the camera and say 'I would like to thank the Foundation for when I was younger!'" - Tiffany
"Thank you for the opportunity to play soccer. Without your generosity I would not be able to play on a team and make friends. It is my dream to play soccer. Thank you very very much." - Jason
