Taking a step in the right direction!

On September 27, 2009 the Children’s Aid Foundation had over 200 participants run, walk and stroll in the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon on behalf of the children & youth we support.

This year the Children’s Aid Foundation was chosen as one of three featured charities for the event. Ninety-nine charities participate in the marathon each year to raise funds for their causes, so it’s a great honour to be highlighted as a featured charity. This year’s opportunity as featured charity gave the Children’s Aid Foundation an incredible opportunity to create awareness of the cause, fundraise for our prevention, enrichment and education programs and have added exposure of who we are and what we do.

Over the years our Children’s Aid Foundation team has gone from 20 participants raising $12,000 in our first year to over 200 participants and more than $70,000 raised this year. This incredible success couldn’t have happened without the dedication and determination of those who participated and their friends and family who supported their commitment to the Foundation.

To mark both our 30th anniversary and our prominent position at the marathon, we invited our participants to “go green.”  We weren’t asking them to be environmentally friendly but to dress head to toe in green clothes, accessories and even face paint!  The result was a sea of green at the starting point that made our supporters stand out and look like a real team.

We would like to thank each and every one of the participants and donors who made 2009 our most successful year to date.  We hope to see you going green next year at the 21st Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon !
