On Monday, June 22, 2009, 140 top female executives from some of Canada’s top corporations came out to Angus Glen Golf Club to take part in the 9th Annual Women’s Golf Classic. This year’s Women’s Golf Classic, presented by Rogers Group of Companies, was an incredible day that raised $208,000 for prevention, enrichment and education programs. In the last nine years, the Women’s Golf Classic has raised over $1.8 million!

The golfers’ day started off when they dropped off their car with the valet service who washed their car before parking it. Golfers then went to register where they received their gift bags and locker keys before heading out for breakfast, yoga over looking the terrace, golf clinics with LPGA professional Sandra Post and massage and reflexology spa services.

Each hole featured food sampling or contests such as beat-the-pro with Sandra Post and the chance to win a BMW at not one but two holes! Food sampling featured treats like Chapman’s ice cream, Mill St. organic beer, Summer Fresh salads, Dr. Oetker pizza, The Cupcakery cupcakes and much more! Those who still had room for lunch headed over to the all-day gourmet BBQ at the half way house.

When the golfers got off the course they headed down to the locker rooms for mini-manicures and the opportunity to have their hair styled at the blow dry bar. The beautiful weather made it possible to have the cocktail reception outside, which gave everyone a chance to peruse the silent auction and have (another) bite to eat before dinner. The night was hosted by Martine Gaillard, Sportsnet reporter, who introduced past-chair Noella Milne, Tara Deakin, Vice President, Training and Development, Rogers Communications, and our student speaker, Aisha Sheikh as they each took a turn at the podium talking about what the Children’s Aid Foundation means to them.

The night finished with the announcement of the reverse draw winners and silent auction bidders. Everyone had their fingers crossed in hopes of being the one who got to take home the trip for two to Breezes Spa & Golf Resort in Runaway Bay, Jamaica or the pair of iPhones.

The Women’s Golf Classic would not be possible without the generous support of our corporate partners. We would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the Rogers Group of Companies, who were the presenting sponsors for the sixth year in a row. Their commitment to the Foundation and the children and youth who need it most is invaluable. The National Bank Financial Group sponsored our reverse draw, which made them very popular with the golfers! The National Post and Chatelaine both came back as media sponsors for this year and offered great support. The Master’s Club sponsors for this year were Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, INTRIA and Scotiabank Group, who all had foursomes out on the course.
