New data shows more emergency support needed during COVID-19 for former youth from care
May 26, 2020

Dear allies:

Our collective response to the COVID-19 crisis is calling upon our resilience and ability to take care of one another. We hope that you are doing whatever you can to take care of yourselves, your loved ones, and your communities. From all of us at Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada, we want you to know that we are holding all of you in our hearts and minds these days.

In the spirit of community, we wanted to share our latest decisions to support staff, child welfare agency partners and the children, youth, and families we serve during these unsettling times.

As of March 16 and in alignment with Health Canada’s preventative measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19, Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada has implemented a remote workplace plan for staff. Like the rest of the country and all of our colleagues in the charitable sector, we will monitor the situation on an ongoing basis. As always, we are available during normal operating hours to assist with any questions or concerns you might have. Feel free to reach out at (416) 923-0924 or info@cafdn.org

  • We are in close contact with our child welfare agency partners across the country who deliver our programs in their local communities so we understand how best to help in whatever way we can. We want to ensure that services and supports continue to be made available, disruptions are minimized as much as possible, and that they have access to flexible funding to address new urgencies as they arise.
  • We are reaching out to youth in our network who are helping us to identify ways in which we might further support them and their peers.
  • We are working alongside our passionate donors and fundraisers with plans for events in their communities to create virtual or alternative approaches so that support for families, children, and youth involved in child welfare can continue.

We know it’s critical that we keep the lines of communication open as the crisis unfolds and we learn more. We will be in touch and hope that you and your families and loved ones stay safe and well.

Sincerely,

Valerie McMurtry, CFRE
President and CEO
