BRENT AND LYNN BELZBERG
Brent Belzberg is the Founder and Senior Managing Partner of TorQuest Partners Inc. He formed TorQuest in 2002 following the 2001 sale of Harrowston, Inc., a publicly traded investment fund he founded in 1992 to invest in and build businesses. Outside TorQuest, Brent serves as a Director of CIBC and is Chairman of Sinai Health Systems. He is also a member of the University of Toronto’s Investment Advisory Committee. Brent’s previous outside directorships include O&Y REIT and Four Seasons Hotels. Brent was President of First City Financial Corporation from 1991-1993.
Brent received a B.Comm. (Honours) from Queen’s University in 1972 and a J.D. from the University of Toronto in 1976.
Mr. Belzberg received the Arbor Award from the University of Toronto, the Canada 150 Commemorative Medal from the Senate of Canada, and the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers from the Governor General.
Lynn Belzberg was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, and later moved to Toronto, Ontario, where she now resides. After attending the University of Toronto, she launched her career as an educator, followed by a sabbatical to focus on raising her children, Bram, Kate, and Zack. Lynn returned to Yeshiva University where she received a Master’s degree in Social Work, before opening a private practice in eating disorders.
Lynn is an extremely active volunteer in her community, serving as a Board Director at Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada, in addition to the Foundation’s Scholarship Awards Committee, and Stand Up for Kids Awards Committee. Lynn has volunteered her time at Baycrest Hospital, Casey House, Out of the Cold (shelter for the homeless), Zareinu Professional Advisory Committee, University of Toronto’s John H. Moss Scholarship Major Gifts Selection Committee, United Jewish Appeal (UJA), Jewish Family and Child Services, and is currently on the Social Services and Seniors Committee for UJA Federation. Together, Lynn and Brent have worked tirelessly to better the community through both their volunteer work and personal philanthropy.
They are most proud of their children and their spouses, Bram and Ilana, Kate and David, and Zack and Torey – and their four grandchildren Brody, Reid, Liv, and Xan (soon to be five!). The importance of family is a value Lynn and Brent hold dear to their hearts, often choosing to honour family traditions in creative ways; for example – Lynn created and published special cookbooks with favourite family recipes to pass along to their children as keepsake wedding gifts to continue their tradition for a love of food and cooking! Lynn and Brent have always believed the best way to teach their children about giving back is to lead by example, which they continue to show every day through their commitment to Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada and many other important causes within their community.
