Stand Up for Kids is Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada’s national public movement uniting caring Canadians in changing the futures of our nation’s most vulnerable kids – those who have experienced abuse and neglect.

Through no fault of their own, hundreds of thousands of kids have experienced or live at risk of abuse, neglect, and abandonment. Kids who are involved with child welfare face many barriers to success: 63,000 live in foster care without a permanent family, they have a less than 50 per cent chance of graduating high school, and a high risk of living in poverty, becoming homeless, and experiencing mental health issues and addiction. Four in five have special needs.

The average young person in care moves to five different foster homes during their time in the system. Most live without the unconditional love and support of a family and close group of friends that many of us take for granted growing up. Every day brings the possibility of a new trauma. For kids in care, normal shouldn’t mean living on the streets is safer than living at home. Normal shouldn’t mean watching a parent beat a sibling or having to quit school to take care of younger siblings. No kid should think of these situations as normal. Together, we need to take a stand.

Take a stand. Stand Up for Kids.

Make change happen for youth who are at risk.

Show you care about the most vulnerable in our society – those who have experienced the trauma of abuse and neglect. Become an ally of kids in the child welfare system. By signing the pledge, you’re saying that it’s not okay for kids in Canada to suffer – that no child should lack the basic things others take for granted. By signing the pledge and sharing it with everyone you care about, you’ll be a part of creating a movement united in making change happen for kids in care.

Futures Transformed Campaign

Stand Up for Kids is our national public movement to change the futures of kids involved in the child welfare system. Every donation to Stand Up for Kids will allow Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada to help remove barriers that limit the potential of children who have experienced or are at risk of abuse or neglect. Your support offers these children opportunities to build healthy relationships and become contributing members of society.

When you stand up as an ally to children and youth in and from care, you’re showing that you support their well-being and want to help them build the futures they deserve.

Ways to be an ally

Check out our list of Ways to Be an Ally, including actions you can take, research you can do, and how to raise awareness about the issues facing young people who have experienced the child welfare system. This list was developed in consultation with members of our Young People’s Advisory Council (YPAC). We hope you’ll join us in standing up for kids.
