The Children’s Aid Foundation recently celebrated Joe Canavan’s incredible contributions to the Children’s Aid Foundation as our chairman and interim CEO with a party and parting gift. For the past 18 months, Joe has inspired us to seek out new initiatives that will continue to expand the Foundation’s reach and impact on the lives of vulnerable young people across Canada. For the time being Joe won’t be too far away as he will be returning to his position as chairman of the Board of Directors, and will continue to provide ongoing guidance to the Foundation.

Joined by friends and supporters, we honoured Joe’s dedication and amazing achievements over the past year, some of which included leading the Foundation to its highest-grossing Teddy Bear Affair to date and establishing the Young People’s Advisory Council, comprised of former kids in care. This group not only provides the Foundation with guidance on issues faced by young people in care but with invaluable first-hand insight into their experiences.

With Joe’s departure, we are proud to announce the launch of the Joe Canavan Innovation Fund to support initiatives that find outsid- the-box solutions for issues affecting young people in care. This fund will work towards changing the way the CAF functions, now and into the future.

Thanks, Joe. We’ll miss you.
