In honour of National Volunteer Week , we hosted an evening in celebration of our incredible event volunteers to thank them for their hard work and commitment to the Foundation.
“This celebration was such a wonderful testament to the dedication and commitment of our volunteers,” says Sabrina Roy, director of events at the Children’s Aid Foundation.
We also paid tribute to some of our most dedicated volunteers with our recently-launched Volunteers of Hope program. Each of these individuals have volunteered at 10 or more of our events since late 2010 or have been regular volunteers in our office for at least three years. They were given specially-designed Foundation name badges to wear at future events, as well as credits to use towards the purchase of exclusive event items.
“Having had the privilege of travelling to many places around the world, I have come to realize how extremely fortunate I am to have a roof over my head, food on the table and clothes on my back and so many opportunities in life,” says Cindy Gahunia, a Volunteer of Hope with the Foundation. She adds:
“I believe that it is my responsibility to help those less fortunate, especially those that aren’t always able to help themselves such as children, the elderly, and animals which is where I tend to focus.”
Making her volunteering debut at the Foundation’s annual Teddy Bear Affair, Gahunia has since donated her time to numerous events, including our Holiday Season Celebration, which she cites as her favourite. She adds: “Working with the CAF staff has been a pleasure and everyone has been extremely friendly and hard working which makes it very easy to come back year after year.”
