Every year, Kappa Kappa Gamma, a sorority chapter out of the University of Toronto, hosts a fall philanthropic event to raise funds for a chosen charity. In the fall, they chose Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada’s Stand Up for Kids national campaign for child welfare as the beneficiary of their event – Koachella 2018!
When choosing a charity to support with their fundraiser, Kappa Kappa Gamma looks for a cause that supports people within their community. Being able to support kids in and from child welfare in Toronto and across Canada by contributing to Stand Up for Kids spoke to the group as they planned their event.
Over 200 Koachella attendees enjoyed popcorn and cotton candy machines, games, a tattoo booth, photo booth, and unlimited snacks for the evening. Through online donations, entrance fees, and activity donations, they raised a total of over $2,200 for Stand Up for Kids! These funds will help to change the futures of Canada’s most vulnerable children and youth, those who are, have been, or are at risk of being involved in child welfare. Donations to Stand Up for Kids help to ensure that:
- Supports can be made available for families to prevent their children from entering the child welfare system;
- Kids in care access to the basic opportunities most kids take for granted, like art lessons, or the chance to join a team or go to camp; or
- Help is available during the tough transition to independent adulthood when kids age out of the system at as early as 18 years of age.
Thank you, Kappa Kappa Gamma, for standing up for kids!
You can host an event in your school, workplace, or community and be an ally for children and youth in and from child welfare, and we would love to help!
