For over 20 years, Taddle Creek Montessori School and Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada have been neighbours in Toronto. In 2013, the school community began participating in our holiday campaign, and was later inspired to Stand Up for Kids and take social (and physical) action by hosting a walk-a-thon.
Principal Matt Smith believes hosting fundraising events presents an important learning opportunity for his students. “At Taddle Creek Montessori, children from a young age learn about the interconnectedness of all people and things,” he said. “In doing so, they come to understand that there are those who are experiencing barriers to their success, both here and abroad.”
Last spring, the students of Taddle Creek hosted their second annual walk-a-thon fundraiser at Evergreen Brickworks to raise funds to support Canada’s most vulnerable young people. They will be returning to Evergreen Brickworks this year for their third annual walk-a-thon in support of Stand Up for Kids. To date, this event has raised an impressive $7,300!
“Events like the walk-a-thon in support of Stand Up for Kids educate our children about those in our community who need our help,” Matt said. “They foster a strong sense of the importance of giving back and building community while supporting a worthy cause.”
Students, parents, and faculty have also been inspired to host other events throughout the year to more deeply engage their school community in our cause. Over the holidays, a group of students stopped by our office to drop off a generous donation from their Bake Sale and Holiday Party!
Thank you, Taddle Creek Montessori School, for standing up for kids!
