On Friday, May 13th, 2016, the Children’s Aid Foundation hosted its second annual five14 Talks, an event dedicated to celebrating Children and Youth in Care Day across Ontario. Bringing together like-minded individuals, from a wide range of backgrounds, to discuss change within Canada’s child welfare community, the forum was a great success! From issues faced by youth before, during, and after their time in care, the day’s topics included indigenous young people in care, LGBTQ youth homelessness, childhood abuse, triumphing over trauma, and other systemic challenges, as well as lived experiences from two inspiring youth speakers and a youth host.

A special thank you to our speakers: Ontario Regional Chief Isadore Day, Violet-Rose Pharoah, Dr. Alex Abramovich, Nick Ugoalah, Sheldon Kennedy, keynote speaker: Jane Kovarikova, our host: Seamus O’Regan, our youth host: Stephen, and our two youth speakers: Cassandra and Maya. And, of course, thank you to all of our guests for coming out and joining the conversation about change!
